Baltimore County Council: Finalize Fair Elections

Last November Baltimore County voters voted overwhelming to pass Question A, an Amendment to the County Charter to establish the Fair Election Fund and reduce the role of big money in local elections.

Now, the County Council needs to finalize the program.

Please move quickly to finalize the Baltimore County Fair Elections program to help strengthen the voices of Baltimore County residents in the democratic process.

In November, County voters passed Question A to support a Fair Elections program for the County. Now we're counting on you to finalize the program to expand opportunities to run for office by supporting recommendations from the County Executive and bipartisan work group on fair elections.

The new program will encourage participation in County elections, reduce the role of large and corporate donors, and lead the state and country in fixing our broken campaign finance system.

Please make sure your move quickly to finalize a voluntary program that will:

1. Only be available to candidates who reject large donations and donations from corporations and PACs. 
2. Encourage candidates to fundraise from County residents by providing limited matching funds for small donations from County residents.

All Baltimore County residents —regardless of race, gender, age, or income—should have an equal opportunity to participate in county elections.
