Baltimore County Council: Support the Citizens' Election Fund!

On Monday, March 18th, the Baltimore County Council is expected to vote on the Citizen's Election Fund charter amendment. If passed by the County Council, the charter amendment will need to be authorized by voters on the ballot.

I support Council Bill 3-19, an amendment to the Baltimore County charter to create the Citizens' Election Fund and want every City Councilmember to vote yes!

Thanks to County Executive Johnny Olszewski for championing this critical legislation to lay the groundwork for a new program to empower Baltimore  County residents and strengthen our democracy.

In Baltimore County, large campaign contributions from corporations and the wealthy have too much influence on our elections and government. It’s time to put families in the driver’s seat of our democracy.

I want you to pass this Charter Amendment so the voters have a chance to weigh in and so we can bring a small donor public financing program to the County as soon as possible.

With a small donor campaign finance system, qualifying candidates who reject large and corporate contributions will receive limited matching funds for small donations from Baltimore County residents. This will elevate their voices and enable candidates to run for office based on the strength of their ideas not access to money.
