On Wednesday, June 20th, the Baltimore City Council's Judiciary Committee is expected to vote on the Fair Elections Fund charter amendment.

I support Council Bill 18-0229, an amendment to the Baltimore City charter to create the Fair Elections Fund and want every City Councilmember to vote yes!

Thanks to Councilmembers Burnett, Henry, Dorsey, Bullock, Pinkett, Scott, Cohen, Sneed, and Clarke for sponsoring this critical legislation to lay the groundwork for a new program to empower Baltimoreans and strengthen our democracy.

In Baltimore, large campaign contributions from corporations and the wealthy have too much influence on our elections and government. It’s time to put Baltimore families in the driver’s seat of our democracy.

I want you to pass this Charter Amendment so the voters have a chance to weigh in and so we can bring a small donor public financing program to the City as soon as possible.

With a small donor campaign finance system, qualifying candidates who reject large and corporate contributions will receive limited matching funds for small donations from Baltimore residents. This will elevate their voices and enable candidates to run for office based on the strength of their ideas not access to money.
